The Alec Baldwin Fellowship

On October 20th, 2011, the US Senate proposed a nearly $20 million cut to the National Endowment for the Arts – a loss of nearly 13% of its annual funding.  This comes as New York City continues to witness an unprecedented loss of 25% of it’s Off-Off-Broadway theater spaces (since 2007). With no economically-feasible “safe zone” in which to gestate burgeoning work, fewer original theater pieces are being produced,  resulting in a dwindling of opportunities for the next generation of talented performers.

The future of the Arts as we know them is at risk…

In an effort to combat this, The Singers Forum – along with Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actor/producer Alec Baldwin – has drawn from it’s long and illustrious 33-year history to create The Alec Baldwin Fellowship at the Singers Forum.

Providing community and support for this endangered population of artists, The Alec Baldwin Fellowship at the Singers Forum will be a year-long program devoted to the development and advancement of groundbreaking and original Theatrical Works.  With the assistance of Mr. Baldwin, we will provide professional mentorship, fine-pointed dramaturgy, and a rigorous, individualized workshopping process for each chosen Project.

Culminating in the Fellowship Festival, where each piece is presented as a staged backer’s auditions, our goal is to create four pieces ready for full off-Broadway or Broadway productions by the Summer of 2013.
