When the typical cost of a private vocal lesson runs in the stratosphere of $100 to $150 per hour, the cost of professional perfection can be prohibitive. As a response to this, The Actors Equity Scholarship Program at Singers Forum gives donor-underwritten private lessons to select and deserving participants. For $49 an hour, recipients are provided with the expertise and mentorship of one of our distinguished Teaching Artists.
While the focus is on creating and maintaining a healthy vocal technique, what the student really gets is guidance through the trials and tribulations of being a working performer, from Broadway veterans and other successful working professionals.
Under the tutelage of Program Director, Eric Michael Gillett, stories abound from our scholarship recipients – of lives changed, careers improved, jobs booked – such as:
Kaitlyn Davidson: recently cast in George Gershwin’s Nice Work if You Can Get It!, alongside Matthew Broderick, Kelli O’Hara and Estelle Parsons. Coming to Broadway in April, 2012!
Danielle Herbert: seen recently in My Way at The Walnut Theatre (Philadelphia, PA). “The sexy, sultry Danielle, with the seductive voice, sang with her entire being.” – Stage Magazine
Laura Carbonell: seen recently in Destinations in the 2011 NYC Fringe Festival. “…a vocal knockout…”- NYTheatre.com
Chris J Handley: performed at Don’t Tell Mama (with Karen Akers), Symphony Space
