John Capes

Private Voice Technique; Actor, Vocalist; Broadway/West End: Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables


Since receiving his training at UCLA, Northwestern University and the Vienna Conservatory, John Capes has been entertaining audiences on Broadway, in London’s West End, on television, and on the concert stage for over 15 years.


US credits include: the 10th Anniversary Broadway Cast of the long-running hit show Les Misérables; A Tribute to Kander & Ebb starring Rosie O’Donnell and Joel Grey; national tours of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, as well as the multi-Tony Award winning Kiss of the Spider Woman with Chita Rivera; the world premiere of Gershon Kingsley’s Voices from the Shadow in New York; and, Terrence McNally’s Master Class in San Francisco.


In London, John appeared to critical acclaim in both 110 in the Shade and Strike Up the Band; the latter at the Barbican Concert Hall, simulcast on BBC Radio 2. Other London credits include: Scam at the Riverside Studios; Murderous Instincts at the Savoy; and the title role in The Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty’s Theatre.


In Europe: Candide and The Great White Way at the Innsbruck Summer Festival; Bernstein’s Mass at the Linz Bernstein Festival; Kiss of the Spider Woman in Vienna.


His television credits include Curb Your Enthusiasm for HBO, Holby City and History File for the BBC, The Kennedy Center Honors on CBS, and Great Performances on PBS.


John has been teaching classes and private lessons at Singers Forum for the past 5 years.
